Absence seizures are type of seizures that are usually seen in children and young adults. Typical characteristics include staring spells or brief loss of consciousness, rolling of eyes backwards, fluttering of eyelids, abnormal aura. It is diagnosed by Electroencephalogram (EEG). Treatment includes giving anti seizure medications and regular follow up with a neurologist. Most of the children outgrow these seizures by the time they become adults.
