There are many people in the world who celebrate their 100th birthday and yet live a very happy and healthy life. According to 2015 data, a total of 451,000 individuals are living above the age of 100 years. It is estimated that 6.2 /10,000 persons in the world are above 100 years of age1.

In the ancient days, when life was harder, people were on an irregular diet, they had very little medical care for even the common ailments. The mortality rate was very high and people couldn’t survive to this extent.

In this modern era, with staggering advancements in the healthcare industry, most of the health conditions are curable. Furthermore, technological advancements also help us to survive natural disasters. Average life expectancy has been growing year after year with all this progress.

This trend is seen more in developed countries where the advanced medical care is available for most of the population. The developing countries are catching up and they have a life expectancy ranging between 70 to 80 years.
